Introducing the newest & easiest way to pay your Freedom Transit fare: Token Transit.

Token Transit is a mobile ticketing app that allows to buy & load your Freedom Transit bus passes right on your smart phone. Token Transit is available on any smart phone device and can be downloaded from the app store.

Downloading the App

You can download Token Transit from your smart phone’s app store just like any other application. You can also text “TOKEN” to 41411 to get receive a link to download the app. After logging into Token Transit for the first time, the app will ask you to allow access to your location. If you accept, the app should recognize Freedom Transit as the closest transit agency to purchase bus passes from. If you do not accept the location detection, you will have to scroll down the list of participating transit agencies until you find Freedom Transit.

Buying & Adding Freedom Transit Passes

Once you have selected Freedom Transit as your main transit agency, tap on “Select your rider type” to select which type of pass you will be buying. This could be a full-fare pass or a reduced-fare pass, based on what your eligibility is. You will then select the fare type from the next drop-down menu. We currently offer these fare options on our fixed routes: Zone 1-3 monthly pass, which gives riders from Washington to Pittsburgh, or vice versa, unlimited monthly rides for $178.00. Zone 2-3 monthly pass, which gives riders from Houston, Canonsburg, & Southpointe to Pittsburgh, or vice versa, unlimited monthly rides for $125.00. Once you have selected the fare type, the app will take you to the purchase page where you can enter in your credit card information to purchase the ticket packages.

Using your Freedom Transit Passes to Board the Transit Vehicle

When it comes time to board the transit vehicle and pay your fare, simply tap on your pass and select “start my ride.” When the redemption screen appears, it will have a picture and a colored banner below it that gives the time that the pass was redeemed. Show this screen to the driver as you board the vehicle to pay your fare.

Freedom Transit paper tickets

With the two new fare payment systems, ConnectCard and Token Transit, Freedom Transit paper tickets will no longer be sold after August 31st, 2018. The last day to use any outstanding paper tickets will be December 31st 2018.
