Rider's Guide for Shared Rides

How to Schedule a Ride

Reservationists are available Monday through Friday from 7:30 AM until 5:00 PM.

To reserve a ride for Tuesday through Saturday, you must call before 12:00 on the previous business day (remember that holidays are not business days).  For trips on Monday, you must call the previous Friday before 1:00 PM. We can take reservations up to two weeks in advance.

Please keep in mind when making your reservation for local trips, that the driver may arrive 15 minutes before or 15 minutes after the pick-up time that you schedule with the reservationist. For example, if you schedule a 9:30 pick-up, the driver may arrive as early as 9:15 or as late as 9:45. This time could be longer if booking a long-distance or run-time trip. Please be sure to clarify with your reservationist when booking the trip.

When calling to make your reservation, be prepared to provide the following information:

To check your eligibility status and register for a shared ride program, please use the PennDOT Find My Ride Eligibility portal, which can be accessed here. You may also call the Freedom Transit office at (724) 223-8747 to register for a program over the phone with the help of a customer service representative, or come to our office to register. If you choose to stop by the transit center to register for a program, please give us a call beforehand so that we may inform you of anything you might need to bring with you to complete registration.

Text Alert System

Freedom Transit operates a text alert system that riders can opt into to receive information on operational disruptions, service delays, and weather-related impacts to your trip.

Text the code SRSERVICE to (833) 366-0836 to opt into shared ride text alerts.

Hours of Service

Hours of transportation service are from 5:00 AM until 8:00 PM, Monday through Saturday, for most services. Regular service is not available on Sundays, or on Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day, and New Year’s Day. In addition service will end at 5:00 PM on Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve. Other dates subject to advance notice by WCTA.

Pick Up Window

Please keep in mind when making your reservation that the driver can arrive within a 30 minute “pickup window”. For example, if you request a 9:30 pick up, the driver may be as early as 9:15 or as late as 9:45. At the time of your reservation a Customer Service Representative will give the 30 minute “pickup window”.

In Certain areas because of the length of trip, a 90 minute pickup window may be given. These larger pickup windows are known as “run times”. A customer Service Representative will determine if a “run time” is needed.
